I only just now finished watching Doug Graham’s video interview for Rawkathon. I’ve been out of the loop as far as what he’s been doing in the world of health and wellness. I do remember that Doug Graham was a big fitness advocate, but I didn’t realize until watching his interview, that HE is the person responsible for the 80-10-10 concept that people have been nattering about. In the interview Dr. Graham discusses this concept, and although he’s been using this method for quite some time, he only fairly recently actually coined the term “80-10-10”. What he means by this “80-10-10”, is that the ideal human diet (according to his experience, and research) is raw/vegan/organic, and contains 80% carbohydrates, 10% fat, and 10% protein – so he discusses in more detail about this approach to a healthy raw-food diet.
Dr. Graham also discusses raising his daughter, and what this is like from the context of a raw/vegan diet, which was interesting to me being a parent of healthy, high-raw children myself. What I also liked about Doug Graham’s interview, is that he talked about the importance of fitness; that our ideal human diet is suited to a person being ACTIVE, and needing more caloric intake, therefore eating more food…and from this food (being that there’s MORE of it) one is getting more nutrients from the food (minerals and such). His perspective on this won BIG points with me, because having tried repeatedly, to be a sedentary raw-foodist…I know from experience, it simply doesn’t work. A lot of the people heading the raw food movement aren’t discussing enough (I don’t think), the other issues surrounding health, such as fitness, which can be JUST as important as the food you choose to put into your body; MOVE your body, people…it feels GOOD! (I say that to remind myself, as well).
